Sallows and Sour Howes from Kentmere - Cover

Sallows and Sour Howes Walk from Kentmere

Sallows and Sour Howes don’t announce themselves from miles off, and that’s exactly the point. This short circuit from Kentmere climbs the rocky Garburn Pass, crosses rough open ground to two understated summits, then drops back by Capple Howe and the valley track. A shorter day than the big-name Lakeland rounds, but not an easier one, with wet ground, faint paths and views that come and go with the weather. Full route map, GPX and field notes included.

High Street via the Riggindale Ridge

Climbing High Street by the Riggindale Ridge from Mardale Head, then on over Mardale Ill Bell and Harter Fell before dropping back past the dry-stone shelters at Small Water — a proper Lake District mountain day, walked with an old friend on his first mountain hike.
