The Scotland expedition in May comes as part of the Mountain Leader Academy Membership but this year can be purchased independently as there are a couple of places for hardy guests.
We start with a comfortable night in a camping barn on the Friday night after a sociable evening meal in the local pub, this way there’s no pressure to arrive early but it’s recommended that you at least book Friday afternoon off work.

THE Scotland Expedition
Firstly, on Saturday morning we’re out for a good hike up Merrick (and a couple of neighbours) to refresh on the navigation, group management and mountain hazards. This will include some steep group work and a river crossing. After eating, we may catch a sunset, but then it’s time for some night navigation before a wild camp by the loch. We’ll discuss kit, weather and environmental subjects.
Along the way, we’ll talk about some things that are not covered in the Mountain Leader syllabus such as running a business, getting work and lots of other things you only get with experience.
Sunday morning will take us back to civilisation via some route planning and micro-navigation by you guys.

You will be tested to your limit just like on assessment. Therefore, you’ll be knackered, you’re brain might hurt, you may be soaking wet. You WILL fail and you WILL succeed. Furthermore, you’ll have a great adventure and an insight into what it’s like to be a Mountain Leader.
We’ll discuss the weekend, and your future, over a meal in the local coffee shop on the way home.
