Repeated by popular demand, we’re off to spend a night in the legendary Black Sail Hut! You’ll get a choice between a relaxed gradual ascent through the rewilding Ennerdale Valley or up over the High Stile Ridge.

A NIGHT IN THE BLACK SAIL HUT

We’ll set off at 10am from the Ennerdale Water car park for a good walk either…

1. High level at a good pace up the fells around Ennerdale with John Beamson of Robustours – views over Buttermere and Wainwright’s Western Fells, across the great High Stile ridge over Great Bourne, Starling Dodd, Red Pike to High Stile and High Crag or…

2. Low level at a relaxed pace, up the beautiful rewilding Ennerdale Valley with yours truly for a relaxing but long walk with a spot of geology and local history thrown in.

The Main Event

We’ll spend the night in the Black Sail Hut – SOLE OCCUPANCY of 16 beds with evening meal and breakfast.

Accomodation

Accommodation is single sex shared dorms, bedding is provided but a towel and toiletries are needed. There are two toilets and a shower, no road, no noise, peace, the company of new friends and general wonderfulness.

Next day, if you’re not heading down the valley with John, I’ll take you somewhere very exciting, Alfred Wainwright’s resting place. Innominate Tarn is stunning, spiritual and has fantastic views of Great Gable and friends. We’ll have a wander over the summit of Haystacks before dropping back into Ennerdale and a great walk down the valley.

We’ll get back to ‘civilisation’ in the late afternoon. You’ll always be accompanied by a first aid trained Mountain Leader with years of experience and knowledge.

There will be plenty of time to ask questions about navigation and night photography if you were inclined as we ‘know a fair few things’ but you’ll be most likely having too much fun and too chilled out.
